A BRIEF HISTORY OF AS
The first issue of AS appeared on newsstands on December 6, 1967 with a circulation of 60,000 copies. From the very outset it was a lively and innovative paper with a firm commitment to football, without neglecting other sports. The paper soon became a 'bible' for fans of basketball, motor racing, boxing, athletics and tennis. AS has continued to evolve and consolidate its leadership among the national sports media over the years and, under the direction of Alfredo Relaño, employs some of the most prestigious journalists nationwide such as Tomás Roncero, Manuel Esteban ‘Manolete’, Juan Mora, Javier Gómez Matallanas, Pedro Pablo San Martín, Juanma Trueba and Guillem Balagué, all regular contributors to other media and opinion leaders in sports journalism. AS has successfully expanded through its website and through social networking sites.
